Perak crisis DVDs:Charge against Tebing Tinggi's Ong deferred

Tebing Tinggi ADUN Ong Boon Piow
IPOH (Star) - Tebing Tinggi assemblyman Ong Boon Piow, who was to be charged on Tuesday with possession of DVDs of a state assembly meeting under a tree last year, got a reprieve.

The charge under Section 6(1)(a) of the Film Censorship Act, was "deferred" due to instruction from the state prosecution chief.

"The charge is being deferred due to instruction from the state prosecution chief," said defence counsel Yee Siu Kai, who is also the Pokok Assam assemblyman.

However, the charge against Ong had been registered with a magistrate's court here.

The infamous power grab
Ong, who is from DAP, was due to be charged with possessing 23 DVDs entitled "BN's Power Grab in Perak" without approval from the Film Censorship Board at the Ipoh Chin Woo Hall at about 8.30pm on March 29 last year.

He would have faced a fine of up to RM30,000 or three years'jail.

Ong, 31, had arrived at the court here at 8.35am, accompanied by former Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin and other state Pakatan Rakyat leaders.
