Human rights group Suaram will hold an emergency press conference at 2pm today, Oct 26, at the Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall on the arrest of Selvachandan Krishnan, an eyewitness in the inquest of police custodial death victim R Gunasegaran.
"We are shocked at what has happened to Selva and want to highlight to the public's attention the gross injustice and abuse of power surrounding the entire inquest," one of the lawyers involved in the inquest told Malaysia Chronicle.
Selva - who testified against the police - was allegedly beaten up in front of his wife and hauled off to the IPK, KL by Chief Inspector Suresh last night. Selva's wife and lawyer will also be present at the press conference.
Just hours earlier, the Coroner had stunned the Indian community by passing an "open' verdict on Guna's death although 4 eyewitnesses had seen a police officer beat him unconscious.
