Smooth postal voting in Galas



GUA MUSANG - Postal voting for Galas state by-election ended today after most of the 177 voters cast their ballots.

Police personnel voted at Gua Musang police headquarters (IPD) while 50 Election Commission (EC) workers voted at Gua Musang land office.

EC secretary Datuk Kamaruddin Mohamed Baria said some of those who did not vote are performing their haj while 22 police personnel are working outstation.

He said they would cast the votes tomorrow and that the votes would be kept at IPD until counting on Tuesday.

Postal voting for Batu Sapi parliamentary by-election will be held in Sandakan, Sabah tomorrow and on Wednesday.

Batu Sapi returning officer Mohd Hamsan Awang Supaan said it will involve 1,615 voters from members of the police (PDRM), Marine Operation Force (PGA), Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) and EC workers.

Police personnel will vote at Sandakan police headquarters, PGA members at its headquarters in Karamunting on Tuesday and RMN personnel at Taman Samudera in Jalan Labuk on Wednesday.

In GUA MUSANG, some 5,000 Kelantan football supporters gathered at South Kelantan Development Authority (Kesedar) square to witness a procession of the prestigious Malaysia Cup.

Kelantan beat Negeri Sembilan 2-1 in the final on Saturday to lift the Malaysia Cup for the first time in 89 years.

The procession led by Kelantan Football Association (Kafa) president Tan Sri Annuar Musa was joined by Gua Musang Member of Parliament Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah and Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for Galas Abdul Aziz Yusoff.

"We took the difficult road to reach here. We were heavily fined, had financial problem and difficulty in signing players but we still manage to emerge champions," said Annuar.

He said claims that BN hijacked Kelantan football did not arise as it was Umno that revived Kelantan football.

In KOTA BHARU, over 10,000 supporters gathered at Kelantan Trade Centre to welcome the squad (The Red Warriors) with the Malaysia Cup.

The Kelantan squad's arrival together with 30 superbikes was accompanied with music by Kumpulan Dikir Barat Sri Seterpa. - Bernama
