Zaid's move to quit PKR was expected: Abdullah Badawi

Abdullah and Zaid
KEPALA BATAS - The decision by the former chairperson of the Federal Territory PKR Zaid Ibrahim to quit the party had been expected, said former prime minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

"I'm not surprised. Even when he was in Umno previously and given the chance to become minister, he (Zaid) had suddenly decided to resign (from the cabinet)," he told reporters after opening the SM Sains Kepala Batas (SMSKB) appreciation day today.

He said Zaid's participation in the PKR was merely to go for a senior position and not to lead the party to become an effective and respected political party.

"He tried to go for a higher position but failed, subsequently he relinquished all positions and left the PKR.

"If he had liked the PKR, he should have led the PKR but apparently, he did not like the PKR," he said.

The local press yesterday reported that Zaid had confirmed that he was leaving the PKR and thus solved the puzzle over his position in the party.

However, official notice about his decision had yet to be submitted to party headquarters.
