Prime Minister Najib’s new rival

Rosmah Mansor, the wife of Prime minister Najib Abdul Razak is on a whirlwind, three-nation visit starting today. She will be, accompanied by members of the Welfare Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers (Bakti) and senior officials from the Prime Minister's Department.

According to a Foreign Ministry statement, Rosmah’s first stop is a three day sojourn in Saudi Arabia. This is followed by a hectic four-day Oman extravaganza before the three-day finale in Bangladesh.

In Saudi Arabia, Rosmah is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the 1st International Conference of Total Quality Management (TQM) in K-12 Education in Riyadh.

She will also witness the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Permata Insan Academy, Islamic Science University of Malaysia (Usim) and the King Abdulaziz and his Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba).

The second phase will prepare her for a meeting with Oman’s deputy prime minister for the Council of Ministers Sayyid Fahad Mahmood Al-Said and Social Development Minister Dr Sharifa Khalfan Al Yahya'eyah.

Finally, Bangladesh’s Prime minister Sheikh Hasina will be meeting Rosmah who will then deliver a keynote address at the 'Symposium for Imagining Another Future For Asia: Ideas And Pathways For Change' in Dhaka.

As Malaysia under Najib seems to be falling apart, perhaps our only savior is for Najib’s wife to step in and rescue the coutry.

There is no reason why Malaysia cannot be run along family lines. It gives the husband and wife tag team, the same sense of belonging and the same reassuring feeling that they are part of a powerful set-up known as 1Malaysia.

Rosmah may be petite but she is not short of ideas. Even the government’s media apparatus have always known that her vision and views are exceptional.

Malaysia should be run like it was a family affair. As everyone knows, a strong woman is able to bind the whole family together. Even straying husbands are kept in check.

Political infighting has never been more vicious than it is today with so many politicians in a greater hurry to get to the top.

Rosmah has proven her credentials as a potential premier and the transition of power should not be difficult. A few things are already in place. For instance, Najib’s own blog to interact with the rakyat, is mirrored by Rosmah’s official site.

At the Hulu Selangor by-election, she promised its people that a Permata centre would be built there in the event that BN wins the parliamentary seat in the by-election in April.

When Najib was ill with chicken pox, Rosmah ‘officiated on Najib’s behalf’ at the ‘1Malaysia Deepavali Carnival’ at Little India in Brickfields.

Australia’s Prime minister Julia Gillard and US Secretary of State, Hilary Clinton arrived in Malaysia on an official visit and Rosmah was on hand to receive them.

She has shown extreme ability in running several government departments and television channels. Moreover, her word is law and her ideas are always accepted by those running the government’s media show.

Her ability to spot talented staff and weed out those who think they know better are legendary. Obviously her talents are wasted on trying to provide domestic stability. - Malaysia Chronicle
