Penampang BN leaders incur residents wrath

Long holidays, mounting rotting garbage coupled with 'couldn't care less' Barisan Nasional leaders could push residents in Sabah's business hub to the 'otherside'.

KOTA KINABALLU: Fed-up residents and the business community in Penampang, near here may very well throw their support behind the opposition in the coming elections because their current MP and assemblymen seemed to be ‘deaf’ to their complaints about mounting garbage and poor hygiene in the vicinity.

Angry residents, shoppers, and business owners of the Beverly Hill shops in Penampang are frustrated over unattended piles of garbage and the foul smell emanating from it.

Endless complaints to the Penampang council, local MP Bernard Dompok and assemblymen Donald Mojuntin has thus far elicited only a “blank response”.

With nowhere else to go, the community have lodged a report with the Kota Kinabalu MP Hiew King Chew’s (DAP) office, complaining about the ‘dirty, smelly and unsightly garbarge collection dump site’ in the middle of the popular shopping and eating place.

According to Sabah DAP IT bureau chief Lee Kim Seng, the situation in Penampang was now worse than before.

“The Chinese New Year holidays has left mounting piles of rotting food, kitchen waste and rubbish dumped out in the open space.

“They complained about the foul smell from the garbage … stray dogs are digging into the kitchen waste and it has further aggravated situation there,” said Lee.

He said there are two locations in Beverly Hill where garbage was disposed into but both these ‘dumpsites’ only had some broken garbage bins.

“The Penampang Council should immediately construct two proper rubbish bin centres for the Beverly Hill shops, and send regular garbage truck and lorry to clear the rubbish.

“The people here are fed up with the negative response from the elected representatives in Penampang…,” he said. - FMT
