Voter turnout hits 79% and 73%


As at 3pm, the voter turnout in Merlimau it is 72.6%, while in Kerdau, it's 79.44%. EC's Wan Ahmad Wan Omar says the turnout may exceed 80% by 5pm.

PETALING JAYA: As at 3pm, the voter turnout for the Kerdau state seat by-election today reached 79.44% while the figure at Merlimau is 72.6%.

The Elelection Commission believes that the turnout for both by-elections would surpass 80% by 5pm.

Kerdau has 8,999 registered voters including 51 postal votes. The seat is witnessing a straight fight between the Barisan Nasional and PAS. Merlimau has 10,679 registered voters.

Both constituencies have reported fine weather although the Meteorological Department has predicted rain in Merlimau towards the evening.

Barisan Nasional and PAS are locked in a straight fight in Merlimau and Kerdau.

Polling ends at 5pm and results of both the by-elections are expected to be announced by 8pm tonight.
