EC: Early voting to replace postal votes

The Election Commission (EC) does not rule out the possibility of introducing early voting to replace postal votes.

azlanIts chairman, Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof, said that through early voting, the EC could do away with the use of forms or envelopes as the voting process would be held in a normal manner, but earlier than for the normal voters.

However, it would be subjected to amendments of a certain act, he said in an interview by Bernama Radio 24 in the 'Kerusi Panas' programme.

Asked on the possibility of members of the security forces, like the police and the armed forces, taking turns to cast their votes on polling day, Abdul Aziz said it was difficult to implement.

“This is because the security personnel have to be on duty on polling day and voting is held nationwide,” he added.

On an illegal gathering scheduled on July 9, Abdul Aziz reminded the organiser and supporters to respect the royal institution.

The royal institution is the highest institution in the country and should be respected by everybody, he added,

“Their intention to send a memorandum to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong through a demonstration which does not have a police permit is not right.

“Instead, they should do it properly in accordance with the culture and norms of the Malaysian society,” he added.
