Sex video: Cops urged to get mastermind

Charging Datuk T is not enough, says a former PKR leader.

GEORGE TOWN: A former Penang PKR leader has urged the authorities to go further than prosecuting the Datuk T trio in resolving the controversy surrounding the sex video they exhibited to the press last March.

The police must go after everyone involved, including the mastermind behind the filming and distribution of the video, said Aminah Abdullah, the former chief of Penang PKR’s women’s wing who quit the party in 2007.

The self-styled Datuk T – businessman Shazryl Eskay Abdullah, former Malacca chief minister Abdul Rahim Tamby Chik and former Perkasa treasurer-general Shuib Lazim – will be charged tomorrow with breaching the Film Censorship Act over the March 21 screening of the video, which shows a man resembling Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim having sex with an unknown woman.

Aminah said investigators should probe whose idea was it to install a device to record the sex act, who had made copies of the video and who was responsible for its widespread circulation.

“And what about the woman in the act?” she said. “Were there any attempts to question her?”

Shazryl has told the press that he stumbled upon the recording early this year and that his conscience compelled him to expose what he said was Anwar’s true nature.

“We must not be trapped in the euphoria of a Datuk T versus Anwar saga,” Aminah said. “There must be strict adherence to the law. Who is behind the recording and distributing of it? What was the motive? We must have a strong prime facie on this case; otherwise the people would just reject it as a political conspiracy.”

She said she feared that Anwar would manipulate the issue for political mileage.
