Doc: Saiful told me plastic inserted into anus

The second defence witness, former Pusrawi Hospital doctor Dr Mohamad Osman Abdul Hamid, testified that Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan told him that a piece of plastic was inserted into the complainant's anus as stated in his medical report.

Dr Osman (left) agreed that Saiful claimed he was sodomised by a VIP but also insisted when questioned many times by the lead prosecutor, Mohd Yusof Zainal Abiden, that the alleged victim told him that a piece of plastic was inserted into the anus.

The witness, who is from Burma and studied medicine at Yangon University, vehemently denied suggestions by the solicitor-general II that he had written the bit on "introduction of plastic in anus" at another time.

He explained that Saiful came to Pusrawi on June 28, 2008, complaining that he had pains in his anus.

After conducting an examination, he said he found there was no tear and bleeding on the region and it was then, said Dr Osman, that the patient alleged he was sodomised by the introduction of a plastic object into his anus.

"I did record this after Saiful told me this after examining him and did insert a proctoscope," he said, in reply to a question from Karpal Singh.

Replying to Yusof (right), Dr Osman said insertion of a piece of plastic is not sodomy. He denied suggestions that the medical notes were added later.

Yusof: The note (about the plastic object) was added later?

Dr Osman: The note was added as post-examination.

Yusof: I put it to you that he did not say (anything) about a plastic (object).

Dr Osman: He (Saiful) told me.

Yusof: You are gullible

The solicitor-general II also asked the doctor whether Saiful knew what he wrote in the report and Dr Osman replied the complainant did not.

When asked further by Yusof, Osman agreed Saiful claimed he was sodomised by a VIP, however the witness said he did not ask who it was.

"I thought this case is best handled by the General Hospital as a police report could be lodged," said Dr Osman.

Yusof: Is (insertion of) a plastic (object) sodomy?

Osman: He told me after the examination that he was sodomised and a plastic (object) was inserted.

The witness was then asked about a statutory declaration which he prepared and he said he made it, because being a foreigner, he was scared.

Yusof: Who asked you to prepare (it)?

Osman: One commissioner of oaths, (by the name of) 'Anwar', and a lawyer named Yusri. I thought the lawyer was acting for Pusrawi.

Yusof: My suggestion is that you will do anything for anybody? You are gullible.

Osman: No

Yusof: I suggest that this (note regarding the plastic object) was added later.

Osman: No.

Karpal, in re-examination, asks whether this note was recorded on another day.

Osman said no, he recorded it on the same day he met Saiful.
