KDN rubbishes '6P project to feed BN' claim

The Home Ministry today said those claiming that the its '6P' amnesty programme to register migrants is feeding the BN's elections funds are committing "slander".

NONESpeaking to reporters in Putrajaya, Deputy Home Minister Lee Chee Leong (right) laughed off the claim and described it as "ridiculous".

"This is again another very slanderous (claim)," said Lee.

Illegal migrants wanting to take part in the amnesty programme can register at immigration offices for free or with ministry-appointed agents for a fee of RM35.

The programme has managed to register more than 1.9 million illegal migrant workers, with some agents reportedly boasting revenue of millions of ringgit.

Critics have voiced suspicions that such agents are funnelling their profits to BN component parties in the lead up the general election.

'No more tampering issues'

On a separate matter, secretary for immigration affairs Zaitun Abdul Samad (above) said that issues pertaining to 'tampered' biometric devices have been resolved.

"What happened was, some agents had tried to make their own devices so they can register more (illegal migrant workers), but these did not have the ministry-encoded software. So the registrations did not go through," she said.

She reiterated, however, the government's stand that "not many" agents have resorted to cloning the immigration department-issued devices.

Zaitun said further that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and the ministry's "flying squad" are also looking into reports that some "consultants" are offering the service of cloning the devices.

"We have not yet received the report from the investigation," she said.
