The Nilai area in Negri Sembilan recorded an unhealty air quality, with an air pollutant index (API) reading of 101 at 11am today, the Department of Environment said.

Thirty-five other areas recorded a moderate air quality while the air quality in 15 other areas was good.

The reading in Bukit Rambai, Melaka was 96 at 11am while Petaling Jaya was at 94, Shah Alam (93) and Port Klang and Batu Muda at 88.

An API reading of between 0 and 50 is considered good, 51-100 (moderate), 101-200 (unhealthy), 201-300 (very unhealthy) and 301 and above (hazardous).

The department said in a statement yesterday that it expected the haze to persist in the next few days and advised the public not to carry out open burning.
