‘Zaid sacked me over website password’

Former Kita central secretary is appalled that his services were undeservedly terminated over a website password.

PETALING JAYA: Former Kita central secretary, Abdul Latif Tambi, has publicly lashed out at party chief, Zaid Ibrahim, for terminating his services over a website password.

On September 14, Zaid had sent an email to Latif informing him that he had been sacked as the central secretary for failing to follow his orders on a number of important issues including on the disclosure of the party’s website password.

In an open letter to Zaid today, Latif called his termination “undeserved” and proceeded to “put right the records” that led to it.

Latif explained that Zaid had wanted him to disclose the website password and other details to Zaid’s son but he was reluctant as this could compromise the website’s security.

He sent Zaid an email with his opinion as to why this wasn’t advisable and asked that Zaid defer the decision as the team hadn’t slipped in the administration of the website thus far.

“Your response was shocking as while we were expecting to receive a response of an appeal denied, a termination of service was received instead on an issue so trivial,” he said. “This issue is a simple one that can be solved amicably within the party.

Latif added that if Zaid had denied his appeal he would have instructed the team to forward the password to his son.

“But I was not given the chance to defend and the principle to hear and be heard is absent in a party that advocates moderation, democracy and liberalism,” he said.

Latif also reminded Zaid that it was his undivided support during the PKR internal elections that had enabled Zaid to garner commendable votes in Malacca.

“It was because of this loyalty, achievement and contribution that I was brought into Kita and appointed the central secretary, a voluntary position with no material or financial gains contrary to what many people believe,” he said.

“Having faith in the party’s struggle I had even contributed my own funds to support the party on various occasions.”

Latif however claimed that recent party actions were no longer transparent and deviated from its basic objective of existence. More importantly, he added, the actions within the party were against his principles.

“I had mooted opinions and had raised administrative and constitutional issues with the hope of change but most of them were met with harsh criticism from you,” he said.

“While the party’s constitution was well defined and the manifesto very well placed walking them was however in reverse as both were sacrificed.”

Latif listed a few recents cases including the unconventional means through which Kita’s state branches were formed and the legitimacy of the membership approval process.

He also questioned the non-issuance of appointment letters to state and central office bearers as well as Zaid placing personal and entity related issues above those benefitting the people.

“Never during my period of holding office was there any gross misconduct on my part that was detrimental to the well-being of the party,” he added.

“I took pride in my voluntary works at the expense of my business and at times having to swallow my pride as a company director by becoming the punching bag for your sudden bursts of anger, all for the sake of the party. It is appalling that for these efforts I was rewarded with a service termination email.”
