Police ordered to arrest 'aggressive' protesters

A police officer who headed one of the arresting teams during the July 9 rally for electoral reforms told the Suhakam inquiry today that police officers and men went through a three-day course before the Bersih 2.0 rally.

ASP Aron Dincscan said there they were given training on the law and instructed on who were the ones they should apprehend.

NONE"We were told to arrest protesters who behave aggressively and those wearing the banned Bersih 2.0 T-shirts."

"We were also briefed on the limits of the laws and on the arrested person's rights," Aron (tight) said.

However, the officer said, he does not know about the time allowed for the crowd to disperse as this task was placed on another officer.

He said when orders to arrest were given, he would direct his charges to arrest those behaving aggressively and those wearing Bersih T-shirts.

Aron, who headed the team that arrested an earlier witness, Hanafi Hawari, said he did not see the youth being assaulted, but saw him at the Dang Wangi police station later.

He also said he did not direct his charges to give Hawari medical treatment as his injuries were not serious.

"There were only (boot) scratch marks on him. He was wearing a Bersih T-shirt and there were no blood stains," Aron said.
