Betraying the nation

  • On the way back from the airport, the cab driver told me that almost everyone that sat in his cab is unhappy with UMNO/BN. I listened attentively to the view of this cab driver that retired from the TUDM in 1988. His main grouse against BN is like many others who sat in his cab i.e. financial mismanagement of the country wealth. He says the politicians in this country are stealing money from the nation coffers. The business model of stealing is the same whether it is ship, airplanes, jets, guns, ports, sand, water, business licenses or even cattle. They do it so well that they get away with it almost 100% of the time. People who steal the nation money are traitors and deemed to have betrayed the country and the people.

  • That long conversation led me to reflect back to the orange book. Since financial mismanagement is one of the people unhappiness, why didn’t PR insert in their books to recover the losses, investigate and prosecute those who steal. This has been done in the Philippines and in Indonesia. Did they not realize that this is one of the major discontents with the people? I agree that the power of investigation lies with the Federal agencies but this does not stop the state government forming a special task force under the state laws to recover what has been lost. They should consider recovering what has been taken away via civil suits. It is a case between the State versus the thieves. Why didn’t they do this?

  • If the present state government under PR felt very constrained by the present laws, the very least they must make a commitment to the people. This includes a commitment that they will not steal from the nation and they will go after the traitors who stole from the nation coffers. No stone must be left unturned to recover every single dime. Can the people demand this from Pakatan? The supporters of Pakatan must take steps and talk to their leaders to incorporate this in their agenda during GE 13. They must question their leaders why this is not included in their agenda. The billions that have been lost could be used to reduce the nations debt significantly and also used to built hospitals and schools.
