Deputy minister clarifies Felda listing

Felda Vision Generation Alliance (GWGF) chairman Rozali Ismail is not against the listing of Felda Global Ventures Holding (FGVH) on Bursa Malaysia.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Ahmad Mazlan said Rozali only wanted clarifications on the matter when he (Ahmad) talked to him recently.

"I have spoken to Tan Sri Rozali Ismail and he did not say he opposed the listing. He was only seeking clarifications," Ahmad, who is responsible for Felda, told reporters, today.

Ahmad, who is also Umno Information chief, earlier attended a ceremony to hand over replanting aid by Risda to smallholders in the Pontian Parliamentary Constituency at Parit Haji Sapran.

He, however, admitted that despite several series of briefing sessions being held on the effort to list FGVH, they could be incomplete and required improvement.

‘Felda listing spooks Pakatan’

Ahmad was earlier asked about the merger of GWGF with the National Felda Settlers Consultative Committee (JKPP) to form Gabungan Peneroka Generasi Wawasan Felda Kebangsaan (Gempak) and its effect on efforts to list FGVH on Bursa Malaysia.

As the deputy chairman of Gempak, Rozali had asked the government to give an in-depth explanation on the proposed move before agreeing to it.

Ahmad said the listing of FGVH was the fourth target in the Felda transformation plan after turning jungle into plantation, jungle to structured villages and domestic trade to global trade.

Ahmad clarified the listing of FGVH would not involve land belonging to settlers but would be a boon to 240,000 members of Koperasi Permodalan Felda.

He said Felda settlers would also enjoy a windfall from the listing in addition to turning FGVH into the biggest plantation entity in the world.

The listing of FGVH, he said, had frightened the opposition parties, which always opposed any effort implemented by the government which brought benefits to the people.
