Finance Ministry expects BR1M to attract 5.2m applicants

December 10, 2011

KUALA LUMPUR Dec 10 — The Bantuan Rakyat 1 Malaysia (BR1M) programme is expected to attract aproximately 5.2 million people, Bernama Online reported today. The programme which offers RM500 cash money will be a hit amongst people who wish to apply for aid.

Second Finance Minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah (picture)said that the Finance Ministry expects many families earning less than RM3,000 in household income, senior citizens, and those who are already registered under the e-Kasih programme to make up the most number of applicants for the BR1M programme.

The Minister explained that families who are interested to join the programme can only do so through a member who is employed.

The Inland Revenue Board will process the applications and those who are not eligible will be identified, and automatically disqualified from the programme.

Datuk Seri Husni explained at a news conference at SMK Aminuddin Baki in Jalan Kampung Pandan today that the application form can be obtained free of charge from the 862 counters nationwide , which includes 415 selected schools. The form could be downloaded from the Finance Ministry’s website as well.

The Minister informed that the payment will be made in mid-January through a method which will be informed at a later date.

Registration for BR1M will end on January 10, and all queries can be made via the BR1M hotline at 1-800-222-500
