IRB gathers data on BR1M applicants, says Husni

The Inland Revenue Board is in the process of gathering data on eligible applicants for the 1Malaysia People's Aid (BR1M) nationwide, with the focus on rural residents in Sabah and Sarawak, said Second Finance Minister Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah.

"IRB personnel and volunteers are currently focusing on rural areas especially in Sabah and Sarawak so that all eligible households are registered.

“They have less than a month to obtain accurate information in these areas to facilitate registration," he told a news conference after opening Surau Al-Ikhlassiah, Kampung Cik Zainal in Chemor, Ipoh.

He said the IRB had initially planned to send its personnel to remote areas and register eligible individuals, but the distance of several locations such as in Sarawak required them to obtain more precise information.

Registration for BR1M has gone smoothly since it was launched two weeks ago and more than 2.4 million applications had been received so far, added Ahmad Husni.

Application forms can be obtained for free from all IRB offices, the Information Department, Federal Development Department and at the Finance Ministry's main lobby from 9am to 5pm until Jan 10.
