A high-powered committee to resolve a dispute between the DAP chairperson Karpal Singh and the party’s Penang deputy chief P Ramasamy has doused the issue.
In a joint statement by the committee’s three members, Tamil dailyMakkal Osai had published a correction yesterday, on one of its articles which set off the dispute
In view of the clarification made my Makkal Osai, the committee said Karpal, Ramasamy and the DAP central executive committee had decided to “move forward” on the issue.
“We will address and resolve internal differences using party channels to strengthen party unity, solidarity and cohesion so that we can single-mindedly ensure that DAP and Pakatan Rakyat can take on and defeat Umno and BN in the next general election,” read the statement.
The committee comprise DAP secretary-general, parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang and advisor Dr Chen Man Hin.
In the correction yesterday, Makkal Osai chief editor M Rajan said it had wrongly attributed a quote to Ramasamy, leading to the row he had with Karpal.
Ramasamay had allegedly said the party should rid itself from “godfathers” while Karpal in turn alluded that the former was a “warlord”.
This led to the duo warring through the media during the run up to the Penang DAP convention last weekend.
The committee was formed on Tuesday evening with the purpose of ending the dispute between the two party leaders.
