Najib determined to contest in Pekan

Najib Tun Razak is determined to continue contest in Pekan in Pahang, his present parliamentary constituency, and develop the district and its community in whatever way.

NONEThe prime minister said he would continue to serve the people of Pekan in whatever situation; whether difficult or easy, and "my heart and soul is in Pekan and nowhere else".
"Thus, I am  stubborn when faced with such a situation; when people asked me to move (to another constituency), I refused as I wanted to prove that the people of Pekan support me and thank God, this has been proven."

Najib said this at a gathering with some 6,000 people who were Pekan-born at the Putra World Trade Centre, Pekan, tonight.

It was organised by the Kelab Anak Wawasan Pekan (Kawan) in conjunction with the 10th anniversary of the club's establishment.
'Pekan becoming education hub'

Najib said although he could not fulfil the personal needs of every Pekan resident, he would continue to be at their service to develop the area.

He said the development enjoyed by Pekan thus far would not have been a reality if he did not get the solid support of its residents.

He hoped the people of Pekan would continue to assist him as their member of parliament and a government leader to bring about a major change to their beloved district.

"I should regard myself as a shady tree that when it bears fruit, the fruit will fall right to the ground and nowhere else, which means the people of Pekan benefit from my leadership as an MP or whatever position I hold.

"I am grateful that their support was manifested by my receiving the highest number of majority votes at 26,464 for a Barisan Nasional member of parliament in the last general election," he said.

Najib said a lot of changes were taking place in the Pekan district, including the construction of the Pekan-Kuantan Highway and upgrading of the Pekan Waterfront and Pekan Museum.
"Pekan is becoming an education hub with a university and other higher learning institutions having been set up there.

"There will also be other projects that will directly benefit the people such as the agropolitan project which is ready and a similar project that I will be launching in Pulau Serai this month," he said.
