KUALA LUMPUR: Nine people including three senior citizens were plucked to safety after their houses in Kajang were flooded after heavy rainfall this afternoon.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Mohamad Sani Harul said the victims were trapped at home as the water level rose very fast.
“All the victims were from Kampung Sg Kantan and Jalan Kelapa. Several areas in Kajang were hit by flash floods at about 4pm,” he said when contacted.
The areas were Semenyih town, near the road to Bangi Lama, Kajang wet market, Jalan Jeluk, Sungai Kantan, Jalan Semenyih and Jalan Kelapa.
Sani said at Kampung Sg Kantan, the water rose as high as 1.5 metres while in other places it reached until the thigh.
The Fire Department received a call at about 3.51pm and arrived at the scene 10 minutes later with 14 men and officers from Kajang and Cheras fire stations.
“The flood recedes about two hours later leaving a trail of damaged cars and motorcycles,” he added.
