Samy's son going for Sungai Siput seat

MIC's S Vell Paari is slated to contest the Sungai Siput parliamentary seat, which his father lost in 2008.

NONEAccording to the New Straits Times, besides Vell Paari (left), considered a newcomer in politics, others who may be fielded by the MIC include first time central working committee members A Sakthivel, 41, M Mohana, 35, and M Madhu Marimuthu, 48, and former senator N Rawichandran and former party Youth chief SA Vigneswaran.

Among the others who could be candidates is current MIC Youth chief T Mohan.

Quoting party insiders, the daily said Vell Paari's name was being mulled as MIC wants a strong personality for the seat as it has rich historic value, being the birthplace of party founder member and first party president who was an MP, VT Sambanthan.

Vigneswaran, who left MIC in 2008 and returned a year later, is a two-term Kota Raja MP who fell in the 2008 polls.

"There is a different voting trend now and the people would vote for a candidate who can serve them," theNST quoted a party insider as saying.

Mohan, despite having problems with party president G Palanivel, is said to be an asset and could also be in contention in the next general election.

"No matter what has happened, Palanivel cannot afford to sideline Mohan. He is a party worker, well known among members and the people for his hard work," the daily quoted a youth leader as saying.
