Sodomy II: Submissions date postponed again

The trial judge has set Dec 12 and 13 to hear the submissions following a request from the defence team.

KUALA LUMPUR: The trial judge of Anwar Ibrahim’s Sodomy II case set Dec 12 and 13 as new dates for submissions after the defence team requested more time to finalise their written submissions.

Justice Mohamad Zabidin Mohd Diah allowed the application after meeting both parties at his chambers today. He had earlier set Dec 8 and 9 for the submissions.

Speaking to FMT, lead counsel Karpal Singh said that the prosecution team had objected.

“The judge allowed our application after strong objection from the prosecution where DPP Wong (Chiang Kiat) had contended that enough time was given to the defence and there was no valid reason for any further extension,” he added.

However, he said the defence needed time especially to transcribe the note of proceedings involving two expert witnesses from Australia.

This is the second postpontment after the initial dates of Nov 23 and 24 after the defence requested for an extension.

Anwar, 64, claimed trial to a charge of committing carnal intercourse against the order of nature at the Desa Damansara Condominium in Bukit Damansara between 3.10pm and 4.30pm on June 26, 2008.

He was accused of sodomising his former aide, Mohd Saiful Bukari Azlan.
