AG objects to 'Sexuality Merdeka' ban review
The Attorney-General's Chambers today objected to the judicial review application filed by the organisers of 'Sexuality Merdeka' on the police ban of its programmes last November.
The matter came up this morning at the Kuala Lumpur High Court (Appellate and Special Powers Division), before Justice Rohana Yusuf.
Following the preliminary objection, the leave application for the review was fixed for hearing on Feb 21.
'Sexuality Merdeka' is an annual festival comprising talks, workshops, literary events, stage performances and an art exhibition focusing on the rights of 'people of diverse sexual orientation and gender identities'.
It has been held in Kuala Lumpur for several years now. However, the police banned last year's programme at the last minute on Nov 3.
