PAS: Why would 901 group bomb themselves?

PAS vice-president Mahfuz Omar says it is “implausible” that the three explosives planted near the Kuala Lumpur court complex on Monday were planted by Pakatan Rakyat supporters.

He said this was because the bombs had caused injuries to Pakatan supporters and damaged some of their vehicles.

NONE"It seems implausible that those sympathetic with Anwar (Ibrahim) would plant the explosives and cause damage, even to the car of a Selangor exco member," he toldMalaysiakini.

Mahfuz was referring to today's front page report of Malay dailyUtusan Malaysia, which quoted a police source as saying that the explosives were "planted by Free Anwar rally participants".

The other group that held a rally in the vicinity the same morning comprised about 50 supporters of Sodomy II complainant Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan.
Mahfuz described the leak of information as irresponsible and called for further investigations to be carried out before such statements are made.

“The police cannot just assume that the participants had planted the explosives,” he said after announcing the Pakatan Rakyat convention in Alor Star on Saturday.
Unfortunate if police don't have video recordings
“I believe police have made video recordings in the area. It would be really unfortunate if they did not.”

Three explosions occurred near the court complex on Monday, injuring four rally participants and damaging several vehicles, including those belonging to journalists, politicians and participants.

NONEAsked if Pakatan would take extra measures to ensure that a similar incident does not occur at the Kedah capital's Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah Suka Menanti Stadium on Saturday, Mahfuz said: “We hope the police will ensure this”.

He also said that the PAS central committee was yet to decide who should replace Selangor exco for Islamic affairs Hasan Ali, who was sacked from the party last weekend.

“The central committee has yet to make a decision. Hasan has received his letter of termination,”  Mahfuz said, adding that the decision would be made “when the time comes”.

Selangor MB Khalid Ibrahim has asked Hasan to resign following his expulsion by the party.

On a separate matter, DAP vice-chaiperson Tan Kok Wai, who was also present today, said DAP has not made any decision on whether to allow its members to contest both Parliament and state seats.

“This issue will be discussed at a central committee meeting in February... a decision will be made before the general election,” Tan said.

Yesterday, DAP chairperson Karpal Singh said that no candidate from DAP should contest in both state and Parliament seats.
