DAP wary of 400 new postal votes in KKB

An increase of 400 postal votes recorded in the Kuala Kubu Bahru state seat could well turn army personnel into ‘kingmakers’ in the constituency in the next general election.

The DAP’s Bukit Tunku state assemblyperson Lau Weng San, who is looking after the seat, said the postal votes are from an army camp which is home to the 4th Royal Signals Regiment.

He noted that the state seat has been won and lost by a majority of between 400 and 1,700 votes in the past. As such, the new postal votes do not bode well for Pakatan.

NONE"This will affect Pakatan's chances of winning the seat. As you know when it comes to postal votes, we always lose badly," Lau(centre in photo)observed at a press conference in Shah Alam today.

He also disclosed that, of the 400 new postal voters, 33 are spouses of army personnel.

The DAP has filed objections to this, as wives of soldiers are not on duty like their husbands and therefore would be able to cast their votes though the normal process.

Lau said the Election Commission has responded favourably to the objections, but has yet to rectify the matter.
In the 2008 general election, BN won the seat with a majority of 448 votes.
Chng Boon Lai, the DAP’s Kuala Kubu Baru coordinator for new villages, and Hulu Selangor councillor Law Suet Peng were also at the press conference.
