No need for NFC to overreact, says Syed Ismail

There is no need for the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) to overreact to the preliminary proposal to charge its chairperson with criminal breach of trust (CBT) as it was just a suggestion to the attorney-general (AG), said Bukit Aman commercial crimes investigation department director Syed Ismail Syed Azizan.

He said that it was up to the AG to decide on the next course of action.    

"If they’re not satisfied, it’s up to them. We’ll carry on with our duty, if not, why else did we investigate?" he toldBernama when contacted in Kuala Lumpur today.  
 
NFC expressed shock in a statement yesterday over police proposal to charge its executive chairperson Dr Mohamed Salleh Ismail for CBT, saying it was premature as investigations were still ongoing.   

NFC further questioned the motive and lack of caution behind the proposal and described it as an unfair attempt to pre-empt the AG’s decision on the matter.     

On Feb 25, Syed Ismail had proposed that Mohamed Salleh, the husband of Women, Family and Community Development minister Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, be charged with CBT.      

The NFC issue came to light when the 2010 Auditor-General’s Report last October stated that the company had failed to meet the objectives of its formation.        

The subject became a heated debate when the opposition added allegations of NFC having misappropriated a RM250 million government allocation.    

Syed Ismail remarked that it was the norm for police to include a few suggestions in each investigation paper sent to the AG.   

“It’s just a suggestion from the police. Whatever it is, it’s up to the AG to decide on the best action,” he said, refusing to comment further.
