Thai PM Yingluck arrives for official visit to Malaysia
SEPANG, -- Thailand's Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra arrived here today for a one-day official visit to Malaysia.
Yingluck and her delegation, which included senior government officials, flew in to the KL International Airport at 2.30 pm and were greeted by Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Richard Riot.
This is Yingluck's maiden visit to the country after assuming the office of prime minister in August last year.
A Foreign Ministry statement said Yingluck and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak are scheduled to sign a joint statement on general cooperation between their respective governments.
Yingluck was scheduled to visit Malaysia in October last year but postponed the trip due to the massive floods in Thailand.
The two prime ministers are scheduled to discuss efforts by their governments to forge greater cooperation for the mutual benefit of their countries and peoples, the statement said.
Yingluck will also have an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah at the Istana Negara.
Najib and his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, will host a dinner in honour of Yingluck at Seri Perdana, the prime minister's official residence, in Putrajaya.
Thailand is Malaysia's second largest trading partner in Asean. In 2011, total trade between the two countries was valued at US$22.95 billion (about RM69.4 billion).
