If anyone saw black balloons looming in the vicinity behind the State Secretariat building on 6 February 2012 you need not have been alarmed.
Although it was Chap Goh Meh and the last day of Chinese New Year the black balloons were not a bad omen but just the Pakatan Rakyat coalition's way "to commemorate the 1 Black Perak incident, the power grab of the Perak State Government by UMNO/BN 3 years ago".
The organisers even came out with a pamphlet "The Perak Crisis Timeline" (below) outlining the chronology of events (click on the pamphlet to enlarge) from the time PM Najib Tun Razak became the Perak UMNO Chief on 30 January 2009 until 9 February 2010 when the Federal Court ruled against "Nizar's legitimacy as the lawful MB".
The date 6 February 2009 is the date "Zambry Kadir was illegally sworn in as Perak MB and appointed 6 new EXCO"
The pamphlet was titled "The End of 1 Black Perak ......2012. Resurrection of Democracy". Interestingly the poster had an icon of a tree, no doubt it being the 'Democracy Tree'.....
(flashback 1) ...where the Emergency State Assembly called by then Speaker V. Sivakumar on 3 March 2009 was forced to convene
..... (flashback 2) after the Elected Representatives were denied entry into the State Assembly building by Police....
and as befitting the occasion, all present turned up wearing black.
..and held the event under the Democracy Tree....
the morning began with a rousing rendition of the 'Negara Ku'
..followed by speeches by Nga Kor Meng.."the Democracy of the State has been stolen"..Lee Boon Chye, Ustaz Abu Bakar "MB Nizar is the legitimate MB" and 'Speaker' V. Sivakumar 'this year we wear black but next year we will be wearing red"....
..Perak DAP Chairman Dato Ngeh Koo Ham began his speech with a 1 minute silence of the incidents that took place 3 years ago...
...'legal MB' Dato Seri Nizar Jamaluddin's speech...'we are releasing black balloons to signify the we need to get rid of incidents of corruption, cronyism, racism and ...'
..incidentally the poster attached to the balloons has a photo of how Speaker V. Sivakumar was 'relieved of his position'...on 7 May 2009...being manhandled ...before he was literally 'dragged out of the House'.....the current speaker Dato R Ganesan took over as House Speaker within an hour later.
...apparently alot of the Rakyat have not forgotten the incidents of 2009
and were present officially or otherwise
...it appears that Perak is a high-profile state..PM Datuk Seri Najib is the State UMNO Chief, Datuk Seri Chua Soi Lek is the State MCA Chief and with MIC Chairman Datuk Seri G Palanivel taking over as State MIC Chief position last week the full focus on the state is complete.....I dare say that the whole country is keeping an eye on Perak...or it may be that ...just maybe.....so is the Rest of the World.
cheers!
