Corruption: Files on Gani, Bakri, Musa closed

MACC cites lack of evidence against the trio.
SHAH ALAM: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commissions (MACC) has closed the files on the corruption cases brought against Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail, Crime Investigations Department director Bakri Zinin, and former Inspector-General of Police Musa Hasan.
MACC’s operations deputy director general Mohd Shukri Abdull said: “We have decided to close our investigation papers until and unless someone brings forth new evidence.”
Shukri was commenting on allegations of graft made by former Commercial Crime Investigations Department director Ramli Yusoff.
Ramli had filed the case two years ago.
Shukri said this during a press conference after being a panellist at a forum entitled “Political Corruption: Perception or Reality” organised by the Karangkraf Group.
He said MACC’s investigations indicated that there was lack of evidence.
“There is no evidence against the two of them and weak evidence against the third,” Shukri said.
To another question, he urged parties wishing to file a report to do so without fanfare.
“Many investigations have been affected when the complainant speaks to the press after filing a report,” Shukri said.
“This troubles us since in most cases we have to rely on witness accounts. We also lose the element of surprise because witnesses might gang up to close our case,” he added.
