NEW CONTRACTOR, BUT NEW MARKET DELAYED

DELAYED.....The unfinished Labuan New Market with work restarted.
THE LABUAN new Central market construction work is estimated to face another delay from its long overdue completion date as mentioned on the signboard, which is 16th July 2012.
There is now a new building contractor, who has recently taken over the construction site of this ill-fated new central market in the Labuan Island. The new market is essential and highly required to solve the many problems associated with the old market.
The latest extended completion date of this market has been postponed to 18th August 2013, after an extension of time was granted to the new contractor.According to reliable source, the delay was due to the faulty work done on the foundation piling work done last time.
The new contractor who took over the work has to drive another 60 more points using the concrete piles to reinforce and complete the foundation work. The work on the building structure is on going, and if there is no other problems and enough money coming in to execute the work smoothly and fast, the work on the market should see a completion on time.
The people in Labuan complained this to the DAP Labuan Chief Lau Seng Kiat and staged their concern on this seem never completed market construction. The people are beginning to wonder whether the government will actually complete and hand over the market or not.
The market will help to improve the condition of the disorder and jam packed in the old market. It is high time the new market is to be completed soon to replace the old. Lau said the people are worry this new market will never be built and now it looks that they have to wait on for another one and a half years before they can use the new market.
Why it took so long to build a market? This is not logical and unreasonable.
DAP Lau urges the Ministry of Federal Territory and the Labuan Development Authority to pay special attention on this matter to ensure that the project is completed as soon as possible.
If the contractor is delaying the work, there should be penalty imposed. Just make sure the government to pay the contractor on time and assist them to get the job done fast. The previous stop work of the first contractor had already caused much difficulty. - Sabahkini
