KUALA LUMPUR, March 14 — Datuk Seri Noh Omar has filed an RM20 million suit against the Selangor government and DAP assemblyman Ng Suee Lim for allegedly defaming him in three recently published articles.
The Agriculture and Agro-based Industry minister (picture)charged today that the articles, published in the state-owned Selangorkini newspaper from November 25 to December 2 last year, tainted his reputation as an assemblyman, minister and Selangor Umno deputy chairman.
The three articles in question are: “Pesawah tuntut Noh Omar letak jawatan” (Farmers call for Noh Omar’s resignation); “Noh Omar khianat petani” (Noh Omar betrays farmers); and “Noh Omar lesap RM110 juta dan khianati petani” (Farmers betrayed, RM110 million vanishes under Noh Omar’s watch).
The articles also included a statement Ng had made against Noh.
According to Noh, the suit was filed on March 9 at the Shah Alam High Court while the hearing will be decided on March 22.
“They tried to make it appear as if I were corrupt.
“The PKR Selangor state government is concerned over the fact that the public are supporting Barisan Nasional (BN) once more. That is why they did that,” he said, adding that the lawsuit was filed in his own personal capacity.
Noh, who is also Tanjung Karang MP, will be represented by the law firm Messrs Hafarizam Wan and Aisya Mubarak.
Six other individuals were also named in the suit, including the Selangor Mentri Besar’s political secretary Faekah Hussin and Selangorkini’s editorial board.
