Selangor MB: I won't entertain RPK

Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim has deflected a popular blogger's allegations on a slew of ‘directly negotiated contracts’ between 2006 and 2010, saying he will reveal all at the upcoming state legislative assembly sitting.

azlan"I don't like to comment on allegations by Raja Petra Kamarudin (RPK) because most of these are not true and I don't want to encourage him,” Khalid told a press conference in Shah Alam today.

“I shall submit documents on the tenders in the state assembly and he can look at my data and compare (it with what he has alleged)."

Khalid explained that directly negotiated contracts are not new and have been a practice even during BN’s rule in the state until 2008.

"They are (such contracts) but I shall explain why they are like that. For example after a landslide, we have to appoint a consultant. There is no time for an open tender, but all (contracts) follow guidelines in Treasury instructions to the state."

Khalid said the state assembly is the proper platform for him to address the matter as it involves disclosing documents which may be affected by the Official Secrets Act.

"Why in the dewan? Because of the power of the dewan. I have to follow the law, RPK has no (regard for the) law, he can just say things," Khalid argued.

NONEHe said that entertaining RPK and his allegations, which have been proven false on many occasions, would be a waste of time.

"If we spend time on this, we will waste our management time," Khalid said.

Self-exiled blogger RPK (right) had recently launched scathing attacks against the Selangor government, resurrecting allegations of corruption and misdeeds in state-linked companies.

Some of his allegations have become the focus of the on-going public inquiry being held by the state Select Committee on Competency, Accountability and Transparency (Selcat).

RPK recently released a list of projects that he claimed were directly negotiated by the Selangor government, against its own policy of holding open tender exercises.

'Don't mind the kangaroo minister'

Khalid also dismissed Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Noh Omar as a blowhard, following the latter’s remark that Selcat is a “kangaroo court”.

"He said he has evidence (of wrongdoing) and documents, (so) he should come forward and deliver them instead of creating excuses not to attend (the) Selcat (public hearing) and (then) say that a kangaroo worries him.

"He must be an agriculture minister from Australia if he knows about kangaroos... We shouldn't give (attention) to the kangaroo minister.”

NONEShould Noh (left) have any evidence of wrongdoing, he should come forward and submit this to a proper platform like Selcat, noted Khalid, or he would be failing in his duty both as a minister and a citizen.

"I feel sorry for the people of Selangor (when they) have a (federal) minister like him," Khalid added.

Noh was called as a witness into a public hearing on alleged sand theft in Selangor, but refused to attend this.
He said today that it is because he considers Selcat to be a "kangaroo court".
