Selcat plans to haul up Umno rep over RM35mil losses

Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim yesterday said Kuang assemblyperson Abdul Shukor Idrus from Umno may be summoned to testify before the Select Committee for Competency, Accountability and Transparency (Selcat).

He told the state assembly in Shah Alam that this was in relation to the RM35 million losses sustained by Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) under the then BN-led state government.

Kuang assemblyperson Abdul Shukor Idrus walkout selangor assembly 1"Kuang (Abdul Shukor, centre in photo) was a board member of PKPS, so how can he not know anything... If necessary, Kuang should be prepared to be called up by Selcat," he said.

PKPS is one of the three government-linked companies (GLCs) being investigated by Selcat.

In a hearing by the committee on March 6, it was revealed that PKPS had sold 12,000 acres land in Miri at a below-market price, costing an estimated loss of RM20 million.

The committee had also heard that three of PKPS subsidiaries had spent some RM90.3 million on failed projects, resulting in RM11 million in losses.

Reshuffle in Selcat and PAC

NONEIn a separate development, the assembly passed a motion to appoint Hannah Yeoh (PKR-Subang) (right) as a member of Selcat, replacing the late Edward Lee (PKR-Bukit Gasing) who passed away last December.

Another motion was also passed to replace Mohd Shamsudin Lias (BN-Sungai Burong) as head of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) as he has refused to lead the state watchdog.

Shamsudin, however, will remain as a member of the committee while Lee Kim Sin (PKR-Kajang) will step up as the committee chief.

Meanwhile, Abdul Rani Osman (PAS-Meru) will substitute Ahmad Yunus (PAS-Sijangkang) on the PAC as the latter has been promoted to be a member of the Selangor cabinet as an executive councillor.
