George insists he has proof of corruption Selangor's garbage collection and disposal contract.
KUALA LUMPUR: Consumers Association of Subang and Shah Alam (Cassa) president Datuk Dr Jacob George has challenged Selangor state executive councillor Ronnie Liu to a debate on alleged corruption in the state’s garbage collection and disposal contract.

Not mincing his words, Jacob told The Mole: “He (Liu) is an absolute idiot to say I have no proof.

“I will be handing over documents to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) tomorrow to clearly show that corruption and bribery exist in the state’s open tender of garbage collection and disposal contract.’’

George claimed he had initially approached Liu with some 30 complaints from the public and contractors, but was shunned by Liu who asked him to make a complaint through the state government’s Hotline section.

“All I am doing is handing over the documents on curruption back to the state where it belongs,'' he added.

A blog post in The Unspinners stated George had lodged a report at the Section 9, Shah Alam police station yesterday and urged the Pakatan Rakyat-led Selangor government to freeze the state’s garbage collection and disposal contract.

George said Cassa will set up a special task force to investigate alleged corruption following a large number of complaints as well as reports that contractors were unhappy with the contract distribution.

In a news report, George claimed he received numerous complaints that poorly equipped, inexperienced, unqualified and financially unstable companies had been awarded contracts which they would sub-contract their work to more qualified companies.

George was informed that a particular company secured a contract under the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) to manage the collection and disposal of garbage for three zones.

“This had never happened before, most companies only handle one zone.’’

Prior to this, Liu demanded George for proof and reminded him that accusations must not be baseless.

“I have checked with my fellow exco members, there have been nothing so far, no complaints and no swindles, '' he told The Mole.

Liu who is DAP’s Pandamaran state assemblyman said, “the tender is being handled and watched closely by the state excos and the Menteri Besar (Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim) himself, so why should there be any hanky panky.’’
