DBKL used Umno laws to seal off Dataran

YOURSAY 'Ahmad Fuad, you have twisted the law to protect Umno's interests. Don't give the excuse that Bersih couldn't follow the law...'.

Mayor dodges Dataran question, citing 'laws'

your sayLouis: Kuala Lumpur mayor Ahmad Fuad Ismail, you are put in place to manage Dataran Merdeka using our money, not Umno or BN's.

When Bersih requested the use of it, you should have allowed them to use it. The protesters are, after all, taxpayers too.

Stop arguing that Merdeka Stadium was offered. Remember Bersih 2.0 wanted to use Merdeka Stadium last year - why did you not approve its use then?
Do not try to play games with Bersih organisers, who are way, way above you in intelligence and ability.
Kairos: The logic is very simple. If the crowd at the Bersih 3.0 rally was hostile right from the start, carrying weapons and was hell-bent to create trouble, then the police action was justified. But we all can testify that this was not the case.
The people were peaceful and the atmosphere was carnival. Men, women and children of all races were enjoying themselves. This was truly 'One Malaysia'.
It was harmless fun until the police took the initiative to fire tear gas and water cannons at the innocent folks, for reasons better known to themselves.
Pandemonium then broke out. When people were needlessly attacked, of course they reacted. Why were the police so merciless and excessively brutal in their onslaught on innocent citizens who did not mean any harm in the first place?
They were just having a good time rallying for a just cause. None of us were hostile at all.
CiViC: Seriously, who the hell is Ahmad Fuad Ismail? I live in Kuala Lumpur and I've never heard of him, I surely did not vote for him, and I've never seen him do anything for KL. So what makes him think he has power over the people?

Free And Fair Election: Ahmad Fuad, you have twisted the law to protect Umno's interests. Don't give the excuse that Bersih couldn't follow the law when it is you who had practised lawlessness.

The 250,000 people can assemble peacefully in KL, as did the tens of thousands across the other states of Malaysia, and thousands others all over the world.
It was Umno that had gotten cold feet and was desperate enough to use their Trojans among Bersih gatherers to create chaos. Everyone knew that Bersih participants would never start trouble.

Journalists and foreigners were invited to observe the rally on their own, and most of them believed that the political powers were the ones who had created the chaos. Stop kidding yourselves and trying to confuse the public.

Chee Hoe Siew: I have a question for the mayor: which law specifically allows you to block people from entering Dataran Merdeka? Just saying that you have the law behind you is a really baseless argument.

Charlie Chan: Ahmad Fuad, you should concentrate on your job ensuring that the DBKL cleans the toilets, sweeps the roads, clears the rubbish and clogged drains. But even these you can't do properly.

Anonymous_3e06: The mayor's allegiance is to the BN government so how can truth come from a government that is bent on stopping the Bersih 3.0 gathering?

Truth is not found in the police or in government institutions. They will only lie to keep the status quo.

Jimmy Ng: It is clear that this useless despotic mayor is just a running dog doing the bidding of his political masters.

He is incapable of differentiating right from wrong on his own, and he has succumbed to the whimsical fancies of his political masters in order to earn some praises and pats on the head.

The rakyat must continue to press for this position to be an elected one to prevent future abuses.
Msiakini4all: Whose laws, mayor, Umno's laws? The mayor should do his job and check if the drains are clean as the number of dengue cases is on the rise. Do the job that the rakyat pay you for, which is not for polishing Umno's posterior.

Artchan: Mayor, if you had made an error in judgement, or had made the decision due to the fact that someone is squeezing your jewels, then just admit it and apologise.

Gggg: Ahmad Fuad is complaining about RM300,000 losses due to Bersih? How about the RM500,000 for that man-made waterfall that was built near Dang Wangi-Jalan Ampang intersection in the 1980s that has now disappeared?

Patience Tested: If the rally had been allowed to disperse peacefully and in an orderly fashion, wouldn't the clean-up bill be a lot less too? - Malaysiakini
