'Dirty' Najib turns on the screws: Cops tortured me for false confession, Bersih protester

'Dirty' Najib turns on the screws: Cops tortured me for false confession, Bersih protester
A Bersih 3.0 protester has accused the police of torturing him so as to extract a false confession that he was the culprit who had hit a police car on April 28, when a 250,000-strong crowd had thronged the vicinity of the Dataran Merdeka or Independence Square in Kuala Lumpur to demand clean and fair elections from Prime Minister Najib Razak.
"Mohd Safuan Bin Mamat @ Nordin just lodged a police report (as attached together with 2 photos of his injury) at IPD PJ on the torture inflicted on him by the police after he surrendered himself yesterday to assist police investigation re Bersih 3.0 yesterday," legal rights NGO Lawyers for Liberty said in a statement out late on Tuesday.
Mohd Safuan was accompanied by LFL Lawyers Fadiah Nadwa Fikri and Afiq M Noor, Maria Chin Abdullah and Mandeep Singh from Bersih and KOMAS.
Metal pipe and slapped 4 times
In his complaint (scroll below), Safuan told of how he was hit with a metal pipe by the police officers who interrogated him a day ago. He was also slapped in the face 4 times and forced to sign a form.
Mohd Safuan had gone voluntarily to help in investigations over the outbreak of violence that marred the Bersih 3.0 rally, which had begun peacefully but later turned into a nightmare of police brutality.
Bersih organizers and many Malaysians including rally participants have accused Najib of ordering the attack so as to teach the crowd a lesson and to preempt Bersih 4.0.
The April 28 eruption of police brutality led to the worst bloodshed in Kuala Lumpur in recent times, with the police firing tear gas canisters directly into the rally protesters, and even fencing them off from the LRT stations so as to prevent their escape.
Chants of Bersih greets 'dirty' Najib in London
The fiasco has shocked the nation and till now, the political repercussions are still reverberating - not just in Malaysia but across the Malaysian diaspora around the world.
Just a day ago in London, Najib was booed and loud chants  of 'Bersih' drowned out his speech as Malaysians there protested his heavy hand and publicly chided him for playing 'dirty' (scroll below for video).
Bersih, which means clean in Malay, is a coalition of NGOs. Their aim is to fight for free and fair elections. So far, they have staged Bersih 1.0 in 2007, Bersih 2.0 in July, 2011 and the latest Bersih 3.0 last month.
"Najib is still in self denial and so are BN. It is sad to see the police going on rampage against their own civilians. But unless, Najib stops the nonsense and listens to the people, there will be Bersih 4.0. And this time, there will be 1 million people," PKR vice president Chua Jui Meng told Malaysia Chronicle.
