KOTA KINABALU: The Magistrate Court here yesterday fined a Filipino RM6,000, in default, six months jail for possessing a fake temporary identity card receipt.
Hamson Mahani, 49, pleaded guilty before magistrate Norhamizah Shaiffuddin to a charge under Section 25 (1) (e) of the National Registration Regulations 1990 which carries a maximum jail term of three years or a fine of between RM3,000 and RM20,000.
Hamson was arrested during an operation carried out by the Immigration Department in Putatan town on May 12 this year.
In mitigation, he said the person who issued the fake receipt had come to his home and sold the receipt to home for RM250.
Prosecuting officer Inspector Syahrin Ali pressed for a heavy sentence, saying public interest should be taken into account.
The court also ordered Hamson to be referred to the Immigration Department for further action.
In a separate case yesterday, local man Murphy Roger, 27, was ordered to stand trial on June 21?2 this year for stealing a cellphone, worth RM500, belonging to another man.
The accused was charged under Section 379 of the Penal which provides for a maximum jail term of seven years and a fine.
The alleged offence was committed at an amusement center in Kampung Air here at 12.50am on May 8.
The court granted him RM2,000 bail with two local sureties. (theborneopost).
