Lembah Pantai Umno clueless about ceramah violence

The Lembah Pantai Umno division said today it is not sure of the parties responsible for the attacks at last night's side-by-side ceramahs by PKR and Umno at which an elderly man and a 12-year-old girl were injured.

The division's deputy chief Mohd Azuz Abdul Razak, when contacted, said he had left the ceramah by that time.

"I am not sure, I left the ceramah site a little early when Shah Alam MP (Khalid Samad) arrived (while opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim was speaking), he said.

Yesterday, an elderly PKR supporter reportedly suffered a bloodied head after he was hit by a stone allegedly hurled from the Umno ceramah site, only a few metres away.

Another victim, a 12-year-old girl, was  hit by a brick, causing injuries to her left hand.

Mohd Azuz said he was yet to receive any reports of injuries involving any Umno member, even though one of the party's speakers, Ummi Hafilda Ali, had claimed during her speech last night that its members had become targets of stones thrown at them.

"I heard about that, but I've not received any report," he said.

Mohd Azuz added that he hopes that such incidents will not be repeated and that two ceramahs can be held in peace.

"This should not have happened. If there is a ceramah, we should listen (instead of throwing stones)," he said.

Over the weekend in Merlimau, two Malacca DAP assemblypersons were hit with eggs and stones, resulting in Bandar Hilir assemblyperson Tey Kok Kiew's car suffering damage, including a broken windscreen.

A Pakatan ceramah on Wednesday was also reported to havesuffered disruption from thugs.
