Tian Chua charged with refusal to leave holding camp

PKR vice-president Chua Tian Chang was charged in a sessions court in Kuala Lumpur today in connection with his involvement in the April 28 Bersih 3.0 rally.

NONETian Chua, as he is widely known, is accused of refusing to leave the Police Training Centre (Pulapol), where he had been detained, when told to do so by DSP Rajakopal Arumugam.

His action is a violation of Section 4(2) of the Protected Areas and Protected Places Act 1959, the charge sheets states. The offence is said to have taken place at 2.30 on the morning following the rally.

Pulapol was where the Bersih protesters detained by police, including Tian Chua, were taken to for their details to be recorded.

The Batu MP pleaded not guilty to the charge and was ordered to post bail of RM500.

He is the first political figure to be charged in court in relation to the pro-electoral reform rally on April 28.

If found guilty, he may be slapped with a two-year jail term, a fine of RM1,000 or both.
