Langat 2 water treatment plant project to be implemented through open tender

KUALA LUMPUR, July 26 — The federal government will implement the Langat 2 water treatment plant project through an open tender system for all suitably qualified companies.

Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water in a statement here today, said all Selangor state's subsidiaries were also welcomed to submit their bids once the tender had been advertised.

As such, the allegation that the project was proposed with the aim to ensure Umno-Barisan Nasional (BN) cronies would get the contact was proven baseless, the statement said.

The statement also said that the Selangor government, as the holder of the state's water assets, had never lease any of the state's water assets to the federal government.

Under Section 188 of the Water Service Industry Act 2006, the Selangor government has been entrusted with the responsibilities to ensure the availability of treated water at water treatment plants in the Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, while Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas) is to distribute the treated water supply, and not vice versa. — Bernama
