WATER is life. The lack of it is disastrous. The villagers of Kampung Baru Petagas and Kampung Petagas, like everybody else, know how important it is. They don’t lack it but they suffer from low water pressure and erratic supply because the pipes aren’t able to supply a constant flow to about 85 densely-built wooden houses.
There are about 880 villagers. But 85 plastic 1Malaysia water tanks have now brought them relief.
Yahya Hussin, a deputy chief minister who is Petagas lawmaker, gave the tanks to them recently. Each 1,800-litre (400-gallon) tank cost about 380 ringgit ($122). He says 591 of them will be given to other villagers in Putatan.
Villager Sapiah Yusoff says 1,800 litres of water should be able to last a family of 10 for a month if they use it sparingly. But she says villagers are relief that they can now enjoy a good shower.
Rubiah Buklan, 68, says she has endured the water woes for the greater part of her life in Kampung Petagas.
“Now we can store water and use it whenever we want,” she says. (Insight Sabah)
