Guan Eng: Gov't will lose in AES handover

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng today said the federal government would be on the losing end even if the Automated Enforcement System (AES) is handed over to it after five years, by the private companies which set them up.

"I think (the Transport Minister) Kong Cho Ha has got the wrong end of the tail; what benefit do you get after five years?

NONE"Do you want outdated and obsolete technology? Something is wrong with him," he told a press conference at the Parliament lobby this afternoon.

Lim was responding a to Sin Chew Daily report today which quoted Kong as saying that the controversial camera system would be passed to the government after five years of operation.

Two private companies, Beta Tegap Sdn Bhd and ATES Sdn Bhd, were commissioned by the government to set up the camera system in exchange for a cut of the summonses issued.

Lim said ultimately, the companies would be letting go the old cameras after raking huge profits from the system.
