Latest Hisham & Utusan spin: Christians voting for PR, so Muslims must vote UMNO

Latest Hisham & Utusan spin: Christians voting for PR, so Muslims must vote UMNO
Umno leaders and its newspaper, Utusan Malaysia, have ramped up attacks against DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng for allegedly asking Christians to stand up against injustice.
The Penang chief minister reportedly told 300 church leaders this past week that Christians should not stay silent if they were faced with wrongdoings.
Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said today the opposition was becoming desperate and resorting to harping on religious and racial issues ahead of the coming general election.
Speaking to reporters at the Taman Seri Lambak health tour carnival launch of the 1 Malaysia clinic at the housing estate here today, the home minister said the opposition was taking this tack as it was losing support from the people.
“When they meet Christians, they (the opposition) say like this... but when they meet with Muslims and Buddhists, they say like that. They predict the general election will be held soon so they think they can shore up support by inciting racial and religious issues,” he said.

Earlier today, Utusan Malaysia columnist Awang Selamat also weighed in on the issue, saying he has been told that opposition leaders would use church leaders as part of their election campaign.
The columnist, the shared nom de plume of the Umno-owned newspaper’s editors, wrote in today’s Mingguan Malaysia that Lim’s speech to the 300 church leaders in Penang should be taken seriously.
Lim has been under continued attack over a host of issues, including property and hillside development in the state that Pakatan Rakyat (PR) won in Election 2008. His family has also not been spared from the various allegations made.
The popular Lim is seen as a lynchpin for PR and his DAP, which has increased its membership since their historic wins in Election 2008.
