YOURSAY 'It's not about the 130,000 guests who turned up for his son's wedding. It's about where the money spent to cater for such a huge crowd came from.'
Pakatan spiteful and jealous, retorts Ali Rustam
Abasir: Malacca Chief Minister Mohd Ali Rustam represents Umno at its corrupt and arrogant worst.
Despite what is patently obvious to most ordinary Malaysians - that the use of government agencies and the canvassing of sponsorships for a wedding on the strength of his official position are both wrong - this leader with a tainted past responded with typical Umno arrogance.
The Malay community, with whose blind support he rules the roost, must seriously do some soul searching. Is this leader the best example of a decent, God-fearing and law-abiding Malay that they can find to represent them?
Jk7462000: Goodness! Ali Rustam has completely got it all wrong. It's not about the 130,000 guests who turned up for his son's wedding.
It's about where the money spent to cater for such a huge crowd came from. At RM10 per person, it amounted to RM1.3 million, not RM600,000.
And when the state government machinery is mobilised to organise the event, that is an abuse of power. Moreover, when the bill is forked by the state government instead of by himself, that too is an abuse of public funds.
Hibiscus: It is amazing that Ali Rustam, despite so much public outcry, has failed to understand that by using state agency money to fund his son's wedding, he has committed a corrupt act.
That he cannot see his family event is not a state event but a personal one, and so is not eligible for state funding, smacks of his unsuitability as chief minister. The funding is illegal.
Anonymous #23456263: Ali Rustam, I am neither from the opposition nor jealous. Why didn't you just pay from your own bank account, instead of getting sponsors? What is the difference between accepting cash or in kind?
Odin: Ali Rustam's statement illustrate two of the most despicable characteristics of the Umno Baru ministers in particular and the BN ones in general - utter imbecility and complete arrogance.
I am not a member of any Pakatan Rakyat parties nor am I a supporter of the coalition as such, but I, too, object to the abuse of state's funds and resources to facilitate what is purely a personal event.
But as this Ali is clearly moronic, he thinks that objection is due to envy. He has not the intelligence of Homo sapiens but of Homo erectus.
My Gay-dar Is Working Fine: In Malaysia, where there is food, there is people. I have a feeling that most attendees were there because they knew that the money used by the Malacca CM to fund this "modest" reception came from none other than the taxpayers.
If you know that your money is used to fund an event, and if you are a true blue Malaysian, you would go to the event to "reap the benefits" or "recover your losses", whichever way you want to look at it.
Vijay47: Ali Rustam, as an Umno member you no doubt have the expected mental deficiencies.
The issue here is not who was invited and who was not but how you, a mere miserable chief minister, could afford almost a million ringgit for your son's marriage.
If it were your grandfather's funds, nobody would care a hoot but the question here is, how could you finance such an extravagant ceremony.
Umno leaders spend way beyond their known sources of funds and you have the gall to claim that nothing is unusual.
Don't sidetrack the issue, we are not talking about opposition leaders Lim Kit Siang's or Mohamad Sabu's sons, we are talking about you, Ali Rustam, the descendant of Hang Tuah.
You are the shameless breed that preaches piety when you are nothing better than abject hypocrites hiding behind religion. To keep it simple, how did you afford to spend that much?
Until you have explained that, we can associate you with Wanita Umno chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, Perimekar director Abdul Razak Baginda and the rest, who are quick to quote the holy book when they fall on the burner.
Truth Seeker: This is definitely not the doing of a man of quality but that of a man who has no feeling for the poor and needy.
The splashing of money on his son's wedding will only make those in destitution feel worse and resentful to live in a society with such great disparity.
iKick: Any place offering free food would attract a large crowd. These people came to attend the wedding as it was widely publicised - one can see lots of banners along the roads in Malacca ahead of the event.
In fact, we saw many guests carried away handouts of food packages too. Clearly, the RM600,000 bill has been underestimated, not counting the tents, chairs, tables and many other facilities provided.
YF: Ali Rustam, you still don't get it. It is the rakyat who is upset over your extravagance. Where did you get the RM600,000 from? Why complain about Pakatan Rakyat?

Even your boss knows that doing such an extravagant personal event will mean scrutiny because that's what MACC and LHDN should be watching for - corrupt politicians and tax evaders who do not declare their ill-gotten gains.
If you were in the West, you would be under investigation immediately. But this is Bolehland - a pseudo-Islamic country that does not practise what they preach.
Rick Teo: Ali Rustam, if you use your money to finance your son's wedding, nobody cares. But when you use state agencies funds to finance your son's wedding, that's corruption with a capital 'C'. - Malaysiakini

A corrupted regime made extravaganza again. This time came form Melaka, the state of historical value, sitting there is a minister, who think the seat of Melaka is untouchable, now to demonstrate his absolute power, he made one of the greatest wedding Malaysia had ever made, making even the Sultan's wedding small.
ReplyDeleteNot only he disrespected the Sultanate of Malaysia, he demonstrated by having 130000 guest and spent 600000 ringgit for his son, tell me? 130,000:600,000 ringgit = 1:4.62 ringgit, confirm the number of guest per spend ration absolutely don't add up, and more importantly, where does that amount of money came from?
If he is a Sultan of Melaka, then everyone will celebrate, no, he is a minister, chosen by the people to help the people of Melaka. Not only he should not be spending, he should tighten his pocket to show he is clean and fair. But instead, we voted for a leader that willing to spend me and your tax money to fund his extravaganza event for his own ends.
Finally, he claim the PR are jealous of him and said if he is the groom, more people will come. Tell me something, are you greater than our former PM Datuk Abdullah Badawi? Is this the leader we want? Is this the system we people really need, time to change!
