Almost half of prime minister Najib Razak’s 2013 Budget which he tabled last week came from national petroleum company Petronas, according to PAS vice president Husam Musa.
Husam said the government did not publicise the fact that 45 percent or some RM96 billion of the allocation stated in the Budget was from oil revenue.
Husam, who is Kelantan state exco in charge of finance, said the figure paled in comparison to the RM10.4 billion owed by Petronas to Kelantan in oil royalty.
“Prime Minister Najib unashamedly announced that the 2013 Budget was people-centric. Whereas the fact is revenue from Petronas increased so much compared to the RM22 billion (20 percent) in 2002,” said Husam, who also heads the Kelantan Oil Royalty Action Committee to fight for oil royalty payment.
Don't touch money owed to Kelantan
Husam expressed support to Kelantan Menteri Besar Tuan Guru Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat who warned the Federal government against using money from oil royalty which was owed to the state.
Yesterday, Kelantan won its first legal hurdle after the Federal Court allowed it to pose questions of law surrounding its demand for oil royalty in its on-going oil royalty suit against Petronas.
Husam said while the campaign to demand oil royalty payment would continue, the stalemate would be solved under a Pakatan Rakyat-led Federal government.
