PKNS: Noh Omar wrong on assets sale

The five commercial assets belonging to the Selangor Development Corporation (PKNS) that cabinet minister Noh Omar alleged that the state was selling off are in truth to be transferred to a PKNS subsidiary.

According to PKNS deputy general manager (corporate) Norazlina Zakaria, the RM321 million worth of assets are to be transferred to wholly-owned PKNS subsidiary Private Real Estate Company (PREC).
As such, she said, SACC Mall, Menara PKNS Petaling Jaya, Kompleks PKNS Shah Alam, Komples PKNS Bangi and Wisma Yakin “will still belong to PKNS”.

In a statement yesterday, she said the move is to “streamline the PKNS group's core activities”, whereby PREC will focus on investments and real estate management.

“In accordance to corporate governance good practice, the formation of PREC and transfer of assets to it was subject to approval of financial committee and board directors of PKNS...

“This also consists of the Finance Ministry and the Prime Minister's Department,” she said, noting that the Finance Ministry had also given written approval on the matter.

Norazlina was responding to Noh's challenge to Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim to refute his claim that PKNS was selling off RM321 million worth of commercial assets.
In a press conference yesterday, the Selangor deputy liaison chief said that if the MB is such a good administrator, as claimed by PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim, the assets should not be sold.

PKNS confirms IPP, toll investments

Meanwhile, Norazlina also confirmed that PKNS has investments in independent power producer (IPP) Genting Sanyen Power Sdn Bhd and highway concessionaire Kesas Bhd.

“However, PKNS is always reviewing its investment portfolio and is prepared to consider any offer which will reap reasonable returns to PKNS,” she said.

Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin in the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday chided Pakatan Rakyat for opposing IPPs and highway concessions, when at the same time PKNS has large shares in these businesses.

PKNS has a 25 percent stake in Genting Sanyen and owns 30 percent of Kesas’ shares.

Pakatan Rakyat's Buku Jingga promises to slash subsidies to IPPs and to remove highway tolls.
