SELF INTEREST? BN will appoint Deputy MB if it wins back Kedah - Mukhriz

KODIANG, -- Barisan Nasional (BN) will give its best for the people in Kedah, including appointing a deputy menteri besar to ease the state's administration process, when the coalition wins back the state from the opposition in the next general election.

Deputy Kedah Umno Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir said this was because the state's administration should not be disrupted by the unavailability of the menteri besar.

"Don't give the excuse of being unhealthy. The service we offer is important to the people. Healthy or not, we have to serve the people. The state's administration cannot be disrupted.

"So, I think it's better to have a deputy menteri besar," he told Bernama in response to the unavailability of Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak in too many occasions of late.

It is learnt that Azizan had not been able to chair the state executive council weekly meetings and attend various events of late due to health problems.

Mukhriz, who is Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister, said to overcome such an issue, it was only apt that a deputy menteri besar be appointed with a clear mandate to discharge his duties to the people when such a need arises.
