After lying about Scorpene submarines, the water shortage in Klang Valley and dodging the rakyat with their counter-Badget 2013, Pakatan Rakyat is making a new attempt which is beyond imagination - to strip the Yang di-Pertuan Agong of his legitimate authority over the Election Commission.
They want the EC to be answerable only to the Parliament, and to them. They refuse to recognise the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) on electoral reform where they are represented.
Still accusing the law and the system introduced under Barisan Nasional as corrupt and bias, they mock the PSC and the EC as being the tools to deny them a win in the next general election, that the PSC is incompetent and will fail in ensuring PRU13 will be clean and free from vote-rigging.
They have forgotten how they won 5 states during the last national poll, a proof that the EC is a totally independent body and only answers to King.
And now they are questioning whether the EC can be put directly under the Parliament, instead of it being the prerogative power of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
His subject can still remember when Pakatan Rakyat tried to amend the Constitution in such a way that the country would end up as a republic, thus stripping the palace of its status!
Looks like they will never stop. They had even tried to get the King's commitment for Bersih 2.0 last year to the disgust of the rakyat, especially the Malays. They treated the King like a president of a republic!
But that's the whole idea. They see the constitutional monarchy as a barrier to their political desire. Stripping him of any power to the administration would augur well in attaining their objective - to rule the country without any interruption from the palace!

There are no plans to make the Election Commission (EC) answerable to Parliament, as it is an institution under the authority of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.One may suggest that if PR wins the next general election, they will want absolute control on everything, including the King. Its true!
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz said under Article 114 of the Federal Constitution, the EC is an independent body appointed by and answers to the King.
"In principle, the EC is an institution under the authority of the King ... the Prime Minister's Department only oversees its daily administration and management.
"Therefore, there is no need to make the commission directly answerable to Parliament," said Nazri in reply to Chow Kon Yeow (DAP-Tanjong).
Chow had asked if the government plans to implement a suggestion by the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) on electoral reform, to make the EC answerable to Parliament.
Nazri, however, said the EC will look into the suggestion for future implementation if the need arises.
