I did not rebuke Nurul, Nik Aziz's son slams "ALL LIES" Utusan
PAS Youth deputy leader Nik Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz today became the latest to question UMNO mouthpiece Utusan Malaysia's reporting style, saying the daily had accused him of rebuking PKR vice president Nurul Izzah Anwar for her statement on freedom of religion in the Qur'an.
Yesterday, Nik Abduh (pic), who is son of PAS Murshidul Am Tuan Guru Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, praised Nurul for coming clean on a statement she made during a forum on Islamic state in Subang Jaya last weekend.
Asked about freedom of choosing one's faith, Nurul had quoted a verse from the Qur'an that there was no compulsion in religion, while saying that Muslims were still bound by the Shariah.
The UMNO daily however has accused Nurul of supporting apostasy among Malay Muslims.
Today, the daily ran a report claiming that Nik Abduh had rapped Nurul.
“No. I stated in my tweet yesterday that we must accept her explanation denying the media’s interpretation of her statement.
"Why deny her right to interpret her own words?” he wrote on his Facebook, expressing regret over the report.
Nik Abduh added that Nurul’s explanation had put to rest the initial confusion created by Utusan.
“That's Utusan, all lies,” he added.
'Not worth'
Yesterday, Nik Aziz said he was not going to comment on something reported by Utusan, saying the paper was well known for publishing false and inaccurate news.
His statement was echoed by PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu who said people should not believe the paper due to its poor track record.
PAS president Tuan Guru Abdul Hadi Awang meanwhile said he could not make any comment until he could ascertain what Nurul had actually said.
“Even if 1 percent is not clear, we cannot punish anyone,” he told a press conference yesterday.
Parit Buntar member of parliament Mujahid Yusof Rawa, who was also a panelist at the forum attended by Nurul, said Nurul had not uttered anything against Islamic principles.
Mujahid said Nurul did not encourage apostasy, adding that only 'desperados' would spin her statement to serve their interests.
